Hello Tiny Space Urban Living

Finally, finally, we are moving in.

It took a year for us to save enough money to be able to fix things around the new flat. (Is it still called a flat even if we’re not paying rent?) It’s a 4-storey apartment style building built by my in-laws. We occupy the second floor while hubby’s siblings occupy the other floors. Of course, we also shared some funds in building the flat so we can customize according to our preferences, especially for the bathroom and the kitchen.

Our main goal for this year is to have the room painted so we can move out of the in-law’s main house. We wrongly estimated the working days of the painter we hired and it took more that 7 days to finish painting a 25 square metre room. It may look small but that size is the typical size of most condominiums in the metro.

Yes, welcome to the tiny space of urban living.

Alas, we are now sleeping in the flat but most of our things are still in the main house. I cannot believe the amount of clothes we have accumulated through out the years. It’s a bit timely though, we can donate our unused clothes to those who were affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

We still need to buy a lot of furnitures and appliances for the flat. All we have in our home are beddings, a wardrobe and a Christmas Tree. After years of not having our own tree, can you blame us?

Our flat may be small, but it’s ours, and bit by bit, we’re making it our home.

  1. That’s a good thing to know that you’re hubby’s siblings just live nearby….hope you’ll earn more to have that flat be fix.

  2. Congratulations to your new flat. Sigh I always want to have a house on our own, we are still renting up to now but we are looking. I even told my husband, it doesn’t matter if its small as long as it is our’s/.

    1. We just got lucky that the in-laws have a spare land in the Metro. I don’t think we can afford some of our luxuries if we are renting.

  3. I would love to see the whole flat when it is done and it’s a good thing to donate some of your clothes to the typhoon victims here in the Philippines. They really need our help.. 🙂

  4. What a nice feeling to have when you do not have to worry about house payment! I wish, I had the same set-up as yours, even if the space is small.

  5. Congrats for moving in to your new abode. Just take it one at a time all in putting all the fixtures in your home. Plan its move and set your priorities on what must come first.

  6. The tiny space of urban living. That line captures how we city folks live. I agree that you don’t have to rush to make your new home completely done. ^_^

  7. I agree with Jonas, we’d like to see a picture of your flat to give us idea and tips on how to maximize space 🙂 Thanks in advance

  8. I really get inspired with couples like you owning your own house or flat. It’s really different when your living with in-laws. You can’t totally decide what you want to do with the designs and layouts, etc.

  9. Congratulations!! This is every family’s dream come true! I wouldn’t know where to start decoratinng hehe. But I bet you have a Pinterest board for inspiration .
